Unidentified miscreants threw a bomb near a fuel station in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, causing an explosion. The incident occurred at Moirang Thana Leikai, with no injuries or damage reported. Police are investigating the case but have not made any arrests yet.
Police officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to gather more information about the bombing. Following the explosion, a sit-in protest was held by the fuel station staff and local residents. Last month, petrol pump owners in Manipur had received threats of extortion, leading to concerns in the region.
The Manipur Petroleum Dealers Association had raised issues of frequent bomb threats and extortion demands. Despite submitting a memorandum to the Governor, no action had been taken by the authorities. The police have pledged to enhance security measures to protect traders, contractors, and petrol pump owners in the state.
Petrol pump operators emphasized the importance of their services and urged for increased security. They expressed concerns over repeated threats that had forced some outlets to close temporarily. The association called for decisive action against those involved in extortion and sought government support for ensuring safety at fuel stations.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N. Ashok Kumar announced the establishment of an Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell to combat such criminal activities. The cell, comprising various security forces, aims to address extortion issues promptly. Citizens are encouraged to report any threats through a toll-free helpline for immediate action.
