Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan marked the 77th Republic Day by engaging with beneficiary farmers at Pusa, New Delhi. He commended the farmers for their contributions to the nation, interacting with individuals like Tribhuvan Singh, Aniket Chauhan, Bhavlesh Chauhan, Hemraj Chauhan, and Jagdish Sharma who shared their experiences with government schemes. Chouhan, addressing the audience, extended Republic Day greetings and expressed gratitude to the farmers and dignitaries present, including Ramnath Thakur, Bhagirath Chaudhary, and Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi.
Chouhan emphasized the significance of farmers, calling them the “soul of the nation” and highlighting their participation in Republic Day celebrations. He praised the government’s efforts to support farmers, mentioning initiatives like the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for pulses and improvements in crop insurance. The minister announced the implementation of a unified Farmer ID system to enhance benefits and discussed penalties for delays in insurance payments.
The minister also outlined upcoming legislation against counterfeit agricultural products and emphasized the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare. Chouhan expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recognition of farmers, citing recent Padma Awards given to three farmers for their contributions to agriculture. He reiterated his dedication to serving farmers and enhancing their livelihoods through various initiatives.
