Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the national security risk posed by unnatural demographic changes and announced the establishment of a five-member committee led by retired Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar to tackle infiltration-related issues.
Shah emphasized the significant challenge that infiltration and other factors causing unnatural demographic shifts present to any nation’s present and future. The newly formed Justice Naolekar Committee will examine abnormal population shifts among religious and social communities and propose a strategic and time-bound solution for demographic changes.
The committee, chaired by retired Justice Naolekar, will consist of members such as the Census Commissioner, Durga Shankar Mishra, Balaji Srivastava, and Shamika Ravi. Sumant Singh from the Ministry of Home Affairs will serve as the Member Secretary. Shah stressed that demographic change is a critical issue affecting sovereignty, national security, law and order, social structure, and tribal society preservation.
The committee’s primary task is to conduct a thorough evaluation of demographic changes in India due to illegal immigration and other unnatural causes. It will analyze abnormal population shifts among religious and social communities and propose a systematic and time-bound resolution. The formation of this committee gains significance amid the infiltration issue’s prominence in the political discourse, particularly surrounding the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
