Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced plans to appoint a senior interlocutor to address issues concerning the Rabha, Mising, and Tiwa tribal communities in Assam. This decision follows a meeting where Shah assured representatives of these communities, along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, that their concerns would be addressed. The tribal communities have been advocating for constitutional status for their autonomous councils.
Chief Minister Sarma expressed gratitude towards Home Minister Shah for engaging with the tribal delegations and acknowledging their longstanding demand for constitutional recognition of their Autonomous Councils. The commitment to appoint an interlocutor and facilitate institutional dialogue has been welcomed as a positive step towards inclusive governance and upholding the constitutional aspirations of Assam’s indigenous communities. Additionally, Shah is set to inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, the largest auditorium in Northeast India, during his upcoming visit to Assam on December 29.
The Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, with a seating capacity of 5,000, is a significant addition to Assam’s cultural infrastructure and has been constructed in a record time frame. Named in honor of cultural icons Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, the auditorium aims to celebrate the state’s artistic and cultural heritage. Designed to host various cultural events, performances, and conferences, the auditorium is poised to become a prominent venue not only for Assam but for the entire Northeast region.
Officials anticipate that the state-of-the-art auditorium will provide a platform for artists, cultural organizations, and institutions, enhancing Assam’s reputation as a cultural hub. The inauguration of the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha is expected to be a key event during Home Minister Shah’s visit to Assam, which will include a series of official engagements. The decision to name the auditorium after Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha underscores Assam’s deep-rooted reverence for its cultural luminaries.
