The state government, led by the BJP, has announced various initiatives to honor Mookerjee on July 6. This includes allocating funds for a 125-foot statue of Mookerjee at his ancestral home in Jirat, Hooghly district. Additionally, plans involve renovating the old house, beautifying the surroundings, establishing a library, and a memorial at Mookerjee’s ancestral home. July 6 has been declared a public holiday in his honor.
Union Home Minister Shah is expected to participate in the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre program and potentially lay the foundation stone for Mookerjee’s statue. The visit may include other events, pending approval from the Union Home Ministry and his availability. Discussions between state and central BJP leaders also covered organizational matters concerning the party in West Bengal.
On June 23, the nation commemorated Mookerjee’s death anniversary, with tributes paid by the Prime Minister and other leaders. Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, an educationist, barrister, and politician, significantly influenced India’s post-Independence political landscape.
