Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the investigation into the Air India Flight AI 171 crash, which resulted in 260 fatalities in Ahmedabad, is in its final stages and is expected to conclude within a month. Naidu mentioned this during the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit at GIFT City in Gandhinagar.
He highlighted that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting the investigation independently, with the ministry providing full support and resources. Naidu stressed the importance of transparency in the probe, especially since the flight had international passengers onboard.
Naidu assured that the final report will undergo international scrutiny due to the presence of foreign nationals on the ill-fated flight. He emphasized the necessity for a transparent investigation process to ensure accountability and credibility of the report.
In response to concerns raised by victims’ families regarding communication issues and delays in compensation from Air India, Naidu mentioned that the ministry is actively monitoring the situation and in contact with the airline. The ministry has urged Air India to engage with the families and expedite the compensation process.
The tragic incident occurred on June 12, 2025, when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI 171, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The aircraft went down in the densely populated Meghaninagar area less than a minute after departure.
