Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Badminton Association of India (BAI) President, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed the official mascot, Peacko, and launched the official anthem for the BWF World Championships 2026 in New Delhi. The anthem, featuring top Indian shuttlers like PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen, symbolizes the energy and unity of Indian badminton as it gears up for the prestigious event. This championship anthem showcases a modern image of Indian badminton with all 16 Indian players together off the court for the first time.
Alongside the mascot Peacko, inspired by the Indian Peafowl, the Badminton Association of India will lead a nationwide fan engagement campaign leading up to the 2026 event in New Delhi. The unveiling ceremony, attended by dignitaries like DG, SAI Hari Ranjan Rao and Indian badminton legend Pullela Gopichand, marked the final phase of preparations for the Championships. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted India’s growing prominence in global sports under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, emphasizing the country’s commitment to developing top-notch sporting infrastructure.
The BWF World Championships, scheduled from August 17 to 23 in New Delhi, will witness over 400 elite shuttlers from 50 countries competing for top honors. Led by PV Sindhu, India’s contingent includes seasoned players like Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty, along with promising talents like Ayush Shetty and Unnati Hooda. Peacko, the official mascot, pays homage to the Indian Peafowl, blending Indian heritage with badminton elements.
Dr. Sarma expressed pride in hosting the BWF World Championships after 17 years, acknowledging India’s rise as a badminton powerhouse. He emphasized the event’s role in celebrating Indian badminton’s journey and inspiring a new generation of players. The championship anthem, a lively track reflecting New Delhi’s vibrancy and India’s street rap culture, aims to engage fans and build excitement ahead of the tournament.
