Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari pledged to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann the fulfillment of long-pending highway and flyover undertakings in the state. The projects in question, located at Makhu, Adampur, and Bhawanigarh, had faced delays.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Mann advocated for the designation of crucial roads, such as the Ferozepur-Fazilka corridor near the international border, as National Highways. He emphasized the urgency of expediting projects that have been stagnant for years due to various impediments.
Furthermore, the Centre committed to the four-laning of the Bhawanigarh-Kotshamir road via several key areas, along with the expansion of other vital corridors in Punjab. This initiative is anticipated to significantly enhance the state’s road connectivity, economic vitality, and public welfare.
Chief Minister Mann lauded the acknowledgment by Union Minister Gadkari of the state government’s ‘Sadak Surakhya Force’, aimed at enhancing highway safety and saving lives. Additionally, he brought up the delayed Wallah Flyover project in Amritsar, urging swift progress for the benefit of the public.
Expressing concerns over the prolonged delays, Chief Minister Mann stressed the importance of the Wallah Flyover project, crucial for connecting Amritsar Airport with Sri Harmandir Sahib. The project’s sluggish pace has led to congestion, safety risks, and inconvenience for commuters and locals alike.
In another matter, the Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of installing a view cutter on the Husner Chowk flyover in Gidderbaha on the Bathinda-Malout Road, under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India.
