Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita criticized the opposition, stating that rhino poaching was prevalent during the Congress government’s tenure in Assam but has significantly reduced under BJP rule. Margherita highlighted that rhino killings were a daily occurrence during the Congress era.
He emphasized the positive change following the BJP’s governance, noting a halt in rhino killings. Margherita praised the government’s stringent measures to safeguard wildlife and enhance security in protected areas. Assam, known for the largest population of one-horned rhinoceros, has seen notable conservation efforts in places like Kaziranga National Park.
The minister commended Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s focus on wildlife protection alongside developmental initiatives across the state. He underlined the BJP government’s zero-tolerance stance on wildlife crimes, emphasizing enhanced surveillance and anti-poaching strategies in national parks and sanctuaries.
Margherita criticized opposition attempts to unite against the BJP before elections, labeling them as politically motivated without a clear development agenda. He reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to progress, infrastructure, and employment opportunities for Assam’s residents. The minister expressed optimism in the BJP’s continued support, citing visible advancements in governance and development.
