Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the MGNREGA program for its failure to develop rural areas, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh, despite spending over Rs 11 lakh crore. Speaking at a BJP workshop in Lucknow, Rijiju expressed optimism about the new ‘Viksit Bharat – G Ram G Act,’ expecting significant changes in Uttar Pradesh due to its large population and numerous villages.
Rijiju referred to MGNREGA as a “guarantee of loot,” highlighting its inability to bring about essential rural development despite significant expenditures. He emphasized the need for effective implementation of the new law to ensure that benefits reach every village, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, which has seen substantial development under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The Union Minister stressed the importance of dispelling myths surrounding the new law and ensuring its successful implementation in Uttar Pradesh. He dismissed criticisms from the Opposition, accusing them of spreading false propaganda, similar to their actions during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) enactment. Rijiju affirmed the BJP’s commitment to addressing misconceptions about the new rural job law.
