Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu refuted claims linking the BJP or Central government to the removal of the “Satluj” film from an OTT platform, calling them baseless and politically driven. He highlighted that the events in the film occurred during Congress-led governments in Punjab and India, making such attributions factually incorrect. Bittu stressed that decisions on OTT content are the platform’s prerogative, not subject to government censorship like theatrical releases.
Bittu clarified the distinct regulatory frameworks for films on different platforms, noting that attributing the film’s removal to the BJP lacks factual or legal support. He underscored the importance of presenting Punjab’s history comprehensively, especially during the years of militancy, without glorifying violence or associating it with any community. The Minister emphasized the need for factual, balanced discussions on historical events, devoid of political agendas or misinformation.
Regarding Punjab’s post-militancy period, Bittu highlighted the government’s efforts under former Chief Minister Beant Singh to restore peace, law, and democratic governance. He advocated for informed debates on history, grounded in evidence and a fair historical perspective, rather than sensationalism or distortion for political gains.
