Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B.L. Verma emphasized the significant progress made in integrating Divyangjan into mainstream society under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. At the 30th edition of the Divya Kala Mela in Dehradun, Verma announced an allocation of Rs 375 crore in the current Budget for assistive devices, benefiting a large number of persons with disabilities. The event aims to connect Divyang entrepreneurs with markets, financial support, and employment opportunities.
Director of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Pradeep A., highlighted the comprehensive nature of the Mela, focusing on empowering Divyang entrepreneurs. The event features assistive device registrations, institutional awareness stalls, and employment fairs to further strengthen empowerment initiatives for Divyangjan. Uttarakhand Governor Lt. General Gurmit Singh emphasized the role of technology in creating opportunities for persons with disabilities, promoting equality and non-discrimination.
The Governor also stressed the importance of showcasing products from the Mela on a global scale to recognize the talent of Divyang artisans. Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Tehri MP, praised the Divya Kala Mela as a catalyst for social transformation and empowerment, going beyond a mere exhibition. She commended the Government of India and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for their efforts in providing national recognition to such initiatives.
Legislator Khajan Das lauded the Mela as a commendable initiative that offers dignity and opportunity to Divyangjan, fostering confidence and social inclusion. The 30th edition of the Divya Kala Mela in Dehradun signifies a crucial milestone in a series of events nationwide. Previous editions have seen participation from numerous Divyang entrepreneurs, generating substantial business and supporting economic empowerment. Employment fairs associated with the initiative have facilitated job opportunities for many candidates.
