Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi launched a two-day program by the National Commission for Women (NCW) focusing on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. Stressing the importance of dignified workplaces for women’s advancement, she highlighted the right of every woman to work fearlessly and with respect. The event, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, aimed to raise awareness about The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.
Annpurna Devi underscored the significance of ensuring workplace safety to enhance women’s participation in the workforce and promote overall national development. She mentioned various initiatives by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to reinforce the implementation of the POSH Act. These efforts are geared towards helping organizations comprehend their legal obligations and establish effective mechanisms to prevent and address workplace sexual harassment. The program convened government officials, legal experts, committee representatives, and civil society members to bolster awareness and compliance with the POSH Act.
During the event, the Union Minister unveiled a booklet on Inquiry Procedures for Internal Committees (ICs) and Local Committees (LCs) under the POSH Act, developed by the NCW. The booklet serves as a practical resource for conducting impartial, transparent, and timely inquiries in line with the Act. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, in a social media post, emphasized the importance of understanding rights against workplace sexual harassment, fulfilling responsibilities, and speaking out against injustice. The awareness program organized by the National Commission for Women aimed to educate individuals on the POSH Act, marking a crucial step in prevention efforts.
