Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju commended Bihar as a hub of knowledge, highlighting its historical significance in shaping global ideologies and democratic principles. Speaking at the Bihar Legislative Assembly’s Foundation Day, Rijiju lauded the state for its pivotal role in the dissemination of Buddhism by Lord Buddha and praised the eloquence of Bihari residents.
Rijiju, acknowledging the invitation from Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, altered his schedule to visit Bihar. He emphasized Bihar’s pioneering move in live-streaming legislative proceedings, setting a precedent for parliamentary transparency in the country.
Reflecting on his parliamentary experiences, Rijiju drew comparisons between Indian and British legislators, noting the diverse responsibilities Indian MPs handle, ranging from public issues to policy-making, unlike their British counterparts. He underscored the importance of legislators comprehending parliamentary rules for effective participation in debates.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, also present at the event, emphasized the significance of state Assemblies in nurturing future national leaders. Stressing the need for dignified expression over disruptions, Birla highlighted the essence of understanding the Constitution and respecting public sentiments.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, on the Bihar Legislative Assembly’s foundation day, underscored the importance of upholding parliamentary norms and values. He emphasized the Assembly’s technological advancements, particularly the E-Vidhan system, enhancing public engagement and legislative transparency.
