Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed deep emotions as he honored his mother, Chennamma, the wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, highlighting her simplicity, devotion, and lifelong sacrifices for the family. Kumaraswamy shared that Chennamma’s mortal remains would be kept at their Bengaluru residence for the public to pay their respects before being taken to Hassan, their native district, for the final rites.
He emphasized the importance of facilitating the opportunity for people to bid farewell to Chennamma, acknowledging her significant role not only within the family but also in touching the lives of many others. Kumaraswamy reflected on his mother’s unwavering support for his father over decades, attributing the family’s virtues and values to her influence. He described her as a devout woman with deep spirituality, known for her daily prayers and unwavering dedication to her family.
Kumaraswamy noted that despite her health challenges in recent times, Chennamma’s resilience and concern for others never wavered. He expressed gratitude to the medical staff at Manipal Hospital for their efforts to save her, recognizing the inevitability of her passing as part of a higher plan. Leaders from various political backgrounds offered condolences on Chennamma’s demise, remembering her for her humility, sacrifices, and steadfast support for the Deve Gowda family.
