Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, participated in the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting (CSMM) in Glasgow. He emphasized India’s progress in sports and confirmed the country’s readiness, along with Ahmedabad’s preparations, to host the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games. Dr. Mandaviya led the Indian delegation overseeing the planning of the 2026 Commonwealth Games and engaged in discussions with other country delegations to support India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics.

Dr. Mandaviya shared insights from his address at the CSMM through a social media post, highlighting India’s sporting advancements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He discussed governance reforms, anti-doping measures, and initiatives like Khelo India and Fit India that promote grassroots talent and women’s participation in sports. The Minister reiterated India’s preparedness and Ahmedabad’s exceptional arrangements for hosting the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.

During his visit, Dr. Mandaviya met with Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, expressing optimism for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in both Scotland and India’s hosting of the 2030 centennial edition. He commended the local team in Glasgow for their hospitality as they finalize preparations for the multi-sport event.

The Glasgow 2026 Games will showcase ten sports featuring top global athletes, including Olympic and Paralympic champions and Commonwealth gold medalists. Dr. Mandaviya also engaged with the president of Commonwealth Sport, Donald Rukare, discussing the excitement within the Commonwealth community for India hosting the 2030 centenary edition. India secured hosting rights for the 2030 Games during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly, with Ahmedabad set to be the primary host city, marking India’s second time hosting after the 2010 New Delhi edition.
