Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari chose to travel by bus instead of his official convoy while inspecting the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg. This move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation amid global uncertainties. Gadkari, emphasizing his long-standing efforts to advocate for alternative fuels and sustainable mobility solutions, mentioned his work dating back to 2004 in promoting fuels like ethanol, methanol, biodiesel, LNG, and green hydrogen.
Gadkari highlighted his past initiatives in launching India’s first electric scooter, car, truck, and bus, with plans to introduce machinery and tractors, aiming to create a Rs 2 lakh crore economy leading towards a self-reliant India. He stressed the importance of reducing petrol and diesel usage in light of the ongoing international crisis, echoing PM Modi’s appeal for prudent fuel consumption.
While emphasizing the need to address the global crisis and reduce reliance on petrol and diesel, Gadkari echoed PM Modi’s call for conservation. PM Modi had urged citizens to use fuel wisely amidst global tensions and advised against unnecessary gold purchases, reducing edible oil consumption, and avoiding non-essential foreign travel. Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, have reportedly initiated measures to save fuel by cutting down the number of vehicles in official convoys.
Efforts to promote fuel conservation have seen PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah reducing the number of vehicles in their convoys. Additionally, there is a push to increase the usage of electric vehicles in official movements, aligning with the broader goal of sustainable transportation.
