Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has completed a five-day tour of Spain, Belgium, Finland, and Estonia to enhance India’s economic relations with Europe. The visit aimed at strengthening the economic partnership following the successful conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Goyal engaged in high-level meetings with government officials, business leaders, and industry stakeholders to foster investment ties and promote business collaborations.

The visit has provided a significant impetus to India’s economic cooperation with Europe, focusing on enhancing technology partnerships, facilitating investment flows, and expanding market access for Indian exporters. Discussions during the tour are expected to bolster cooperation in forward-looking sectors and promote mutual benefits for both India and the European countries. Goyal was accompanied by a delegation of Indian business representatives during the visit.

In Spain, Goyal held discussions with key officials including the First Vice-President and Minister of Economy, Trade, and Business, and the Minister of Industry and Tourism. The discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral engagement through initiatives like an annual India-Spain Joint Commission meeting with business participation. Both countries identified opportunities for collaboration in various sectors such as automotive, pharmaceutical, renewable energy, and tourism. Technical discussions on digital payments interoperability were also advanced during the visit.

During his visit to Brussels, Goyal co-chaired the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council Ministerial Meeting. The meeting welcomed the adoption of the 2026-27 TTC Action Plan and discussed issues related to trade, technology cooperation, and market access. Discussions also included negotiations on agreements related to investment protection, geographical indications, and regulatory simplification. Both sides reiterated their commitment to the early signing and implementation of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

In Finland, Goyal met with government officials to explore cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in emerging technologies and innovation. Goyal invited Finnish companies to consider establishing manufacturing facilities in India to leverage global markets and deepen partnerships in various technology sectors. The visit to Estonia marked a significant milestone in bilateral economic relations, emphasizing the growing importance of economic ties between the two countries.
