Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the ‘White Rabbit Technology’-based ‘Indian Standard Time (IST) Distribution Demonstration Network’ in Bengaluru. This initiative, aligned with the vision of ‘One Nation, One Time,’ aims to establish a precise and secure time standard across India. By reducing reliance on foreign time sources like GPS, the new system enhances India’s digital infrastructure sovereignty and safeguards critical sectors from cyber threats.
The project, overseen by the Legal Metrology Division of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, was developed in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), ISRO, BSNL, and SEBI. Operating in line with global Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) protocols, the indigenous system is set to bolster India’s internal security and uphold international quality benchmarks. Pralhad Joshi highlighted that synchronized high-precision time will play a pivotal role in ensuring stability across financial markets, stock exchanges, digital banking, telecommunications networks, and national power grids.
The Minister emphasized that uniform time protocols will not only enhance internal security but also lay the groundwork for future technology-driven digital governance and transparency in public services. The event, attended by officials including Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and Anupam Mishra, witnessed the unveiling of a system poised to revolutionize time synchronization in India.
