Union Minister Pralhad Joshi dismissed allegations made by Karnataka’s Congress leaders regarding a fertiliser shortage for farmers in the state. Joshi emphasized that there is an abundant stock of Urea, DAP, and NPK fertilisers available for the ongoing Kharif-2026 season. He stated that the Centre has ensured supplies well above the state’s requirements despite global supply disruptions.
Joshi highlighted that Karnataka has ample stocks of fertilisers, with the Centre providing quantities exceeding the state’s needs. For instance, there is still over 3.29 LMT of Urea stock available in Karnataka after meeting the pro-rata requirement. Similarly, the availability of DAP and NPK fertilisers surpasses the state’s demands, ensuring a stable supply chain.
The Minister attributed global fertiliser supply challenges to geopolitical conflicts involving major countries and reduced exports from key suppliers like China. Despite these obstacles, India has maintained sufficient fertiliser stocks through increased domestic production and timely imports. Joshi urged Karnataka to enhance distribution mechanisms and prevent malpractices like black marketing to ensure smooth access to fertilisers for farmers.
