Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led a high-level meeting at the Sports Authority of India headquarters to assess India’s readiness for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Senior officials provided updates on the country’s preparedness, ensuring athletes receive comprehensive support for the upcoming event.
A 15-member committee, including key figures like Hari Ranjan Rao and PT Usha, has been actively involved in reviewing preparations for the Asian Games 2026. The committee has been focusing on areas such as training, logistics, athlete welfare, and competition readiness to strategize India’s participation effectively.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya reiterated the government’s dedication to athlete welfare and performance during the meeting. Emphasizing the priority placed on athletes, he assured comprehensive support ranging from training and sports science to logistics and medical care. The goal is to enable athletes to concentrate on their performance without any hindrances and enhance India’s medal count at the Games.
Efforts towards coordinated preparations involving all stakeholders were highlighted by the Union Minister, stressing the importance of structured planning and robust support systems. Timely and strategic planning is deemed crucial in propelling India towards achieving new milestones at the 2026 Asian Games.
Designation of Nodal Officers by each National Sports Federation (NSF) for the AG Technical Handbook, early finalization of teams, and strengthening support staff capacities are key aspects of the preparation strategy. Special attention is being given to acclimatization factors like food and environmental conditions, with measures in place to simulate competition environments in India before the Games.
