Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently oversaw the wheat procurement procedures in Vidisha, his parliamentary constituency. The focus of the review meeting was to enhance the efficiency and speed of the ongoing wheat procurement operations. Notably, the issues that were previously encountered, such as delays in slot booking, have been largely resolved.
Chouhan expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating that the wheat procurement process from farmers is smoothly ongoing, with most challenges now addressed. He highlighted the significant improvement in the slot booking system, with more than 80% of farmers having completed their bookings. The process, which faced slowdowns earlier due to technical issues, is now operating seamlessly across all centers.
The Union Minister emphasized that the procurement will continue until May 23, although it is anticipated that most farmers will finish the process well before the deadline. He reassured that every eligible farmer will have their wheat procured without any hindrances. Chouhan affirmed the commitment to ensuring a smooth completion of wheat procurement from all eligible farmers.
Issues concerning farmers engaged in lease-based cultivation, known as ‘kauli’ farming, were also addressed during the review. Chouhan mentioned that these farmers will be considered for procurement upon successful verification of land ownership and lease documents. To address any remaining grievances, a control room has been established at the district Collectorate to promptly resolve issues related to verification, slot booking, and documentation.
Furthermore, the availability of gunny bags essential for wheat storage and transportation was discussed. Officials reported an improved supply and ample stock for the upcoming days, with continuous replenishment efforts in place. This review marked the third meeting on wheat procurement conducted by the Union Minister, reflecting a commitment to enhancing coordination and expediting the process in the region.
