Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the upcoming Assam Assembly elections as crucial for the Assamese community, stressing the need for a lasting solution to issues like illegal infiltration. He expressed concern over the long-standing problem of infiltration from Bangladesh, impacting Assam’s social and demographic structure. Sonowal stated that the BJP is committed to addressing this issue decisively, as desired by the people.
Sonowal affirmed that all Indian citizens in Assam currently enjoy dignity and security, with the state’s diverse communities upholding inclusive values throughout history. He asserted that the preservation of Assamese identity and culture would be ensured under a BJP-led government. Criticizing the Congress, Sonowal accused the party of neglecting the interests and safety of the Assamese people during its governance.
The BJP leader recalled the Assam Agitation, emphasizing the loss of lives during the movement and criticizing the Congress for failing to address the state’s core concerns. Sonowal also pointed out the BJP government’s efforts, including eviction drives in encroached areas like Kaziranga, and initiatives to safeguard the state’s ecological and cultural heritage. He highlighted the success of enhanced security measures in Kaziranga National Park in protecting the one-horned rhinoceros from poaching activities.
Sonowal further alleged that the Congress had enforced “unconstitutional laws” and disregarded the aspirations of the Assamese populace. Concluding his remarks, he stated that under BJP governance, Assam has witnessed both security and development, positioning itself as one of the leading states in the country.
