Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, aiming to drive a village-first development revolution, focusing on rural India’s growth. Sonowal stated that this vision is not merely a slogan but a national mission to elevate villages as economic engines for progress.
Viksit Bharat 2047, also known as VB-G RAM G, guarantees 125 days of employment per rural household, ensuring dignified livelihoods for underprivileged families. Sonowal highlighted the importance of linking employment with water security, infrastructure development, and long-term productivity to uplift the rural economy.
Sonowal praised the significant reduction in rural poverty from 25.7% in 2011–12 to 8.36% in 2023-24, attributing this decline to enhanced connectivity, direct benefit transfers, and technology-driven governance. He commended the transformation of the MNREGA scheme under the Modi government, emphasizing transparency, technology integration, and efficient fund utilization.
The minister criticized the Congress party for opposing Viksit Bharat, labeling their stance as outdated politics centered on dynasty rather than development. Sonowal contrasted this with the BJP’s focus on performance, transparency, and inclusive governance, aimed at empowering the marginalized sections of society.
