Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will lay the foundation stone for Adani Group’s Rs 2,500 crore defence manufacturing plant in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district. This project aims to bolster the state’s status as a growing defence manufacturing hub, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.
The new facility is anticipated to create about 5,000 job opportunities, both directly and indirectly, while involving local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the defence manufacturing supply chain. It reflects the minister’s efforts to attract investments to the Gwalior-Chambal region, which is evolving into a significant defence manufacturing cluster.
Scheduled to be operational within three years, the plant in Shivpuri will complement Adani Group’s existing small arms manufacturing complex, contributing to a comprehensive defence manufacturing ecosystem in the area. The Adani Group’s Small Arms Complex in Gwalior has already engaged over 25 local MSMEs, with expectations of further expanding opportunities for ancillary industries.
The Gwalior plant, which delivered the first batch of ‘Prahar’ light machine guns (LMGs) to the Indian Army ahead of schedule, has generated around 3,000 jobs. This defence manufacturing initiative is part of various industrial investments in the Gwalior-Chambal region, including a jacket manufacturing unit at Badarwas and a Rs 1,059 crore cement grinding unit in Guna.
