Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, called on states to streamline procedures and prioritize farmer-focused governance to enhance agricultural productivity. Highlighting a record food-grain production of around 376.563 million tonnes in India, Chouhan emphasized the need for visible governance impact on people’s lives, not just in paperwork.
Addressing the National Agriculture Conference — Kharif Campaign 2026, Chouhan lauded India’s global leadership in rice production and significant progress in wheat, maize, pulses, and oilseeds cultivation. He stressed that rules should serve farmers’ convenience, not the other way around.
During the conference, Chouhan engaged in extensive dialogues with state agriculture ministers, officials, scientists, and farmers to promote holistic agricultural development. He advocated for time-bound, result-oriented, and farmer-centric actions driven by policy, innovation, and commitment, urging ministers to spearhead initiatives for swift and tangible outcomes.
The conference, with active participation from state agriculture ministers, evolved into a collaborative platform for agricultural advancement. Chouhan underscored the importance of enhancing food security, augmenting farmers’ income, ensuring agricultural profitability, and prioritizing nutritional security for comprehensive agricultural growth.
Encouraging states to oversee the implementation of key agricultural missions like Pulses Mission and Oilseeds Mission, Chouhan emphasized the need for scientists to conduct demand-driven research aligned with farmers’ requirements. He also stressed the utilization of Soil Health Cards at the field level to help farmers address nutrient deficiencies effectively.
