The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has debunked a video circulating on social media that raised safety concerns about the Varanasi Ropeway. The video showing a swinging gondola was deemed misleading as it is part of safety testing procedures.
Responding to the video, the Press Information Bureau clarified that the swinging observed in the video is well within safety standards set by CEN. The Bureau dismissed claims that the significant investment in the Varanasi Ropeway had been wasted.
The official statement explained that the swinging gondola is a result of intentional safety measures, including emergency brakes and support systems. These movements are well-controlled and comply with safety codes to ensure passenger safety during operations.
The Varanasi Ropeway project aims to reduce travel time between Varanasi Cantonment Railway Station and Godowlia from 45 minutes to 15 minutes. The ropeway is expected to be operational by May this year.
