UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning acknowledged her team’s comprehensive defeat by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 clash at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Lanning expressed disappointment at their performance, stating that RCB outplayed them in all aspects of the game.
RCB’s victory was highlighted by a remarkable partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Grace Harris, leading to an easy chase of 144 runs. Grace Harris’s explosive 85 off 40 balls and Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 47 set the tone for RCB’s dominant win. The duo’s 137-run opening stand became RCB’s highest in franchise history.
Meg Lanning praised Grace Harris’s exceptional performance while expressing frustration at her team’s inability to counter her. Lanning admitted that UP Warriorz struggled to find momentum with the bat, emphasizing the need to improve their batting performance in future matches.
Reflecting on the match, Lanning credited RCB’s strong bowling attack for putting UP Warriorz under pressure early on. Despite a late recovery led by Deepti Sharma and Deandra Dottin, UP Warriorz could only manage to post 143 runs. Lanning also commended Shikha Pandey’s bowling tactics, despite the team’s loss.
With this win, RCB secured the top spot on the points table, while UP Warriorz faced the challenge of regrouping quickly for the upcoming matches in the tournament.
