The US Air Force disclosed that around 11,000 gallons or approximately 41,000 liters of jet fuel spilled from a fuel tank at a US air base in Gunsan, South Korea, last month. Airmen from the 8th Logistics Readiness Squadron and 8th Civil Engineer Squadron identified the leak at Kunsan Air Base on January 26, leading to an investigation to determine the root cause. The 8th Fighter Wing mentioned that experts are continuously monitoring the site as restoration work progresses.

Meanwhile, another fuel leak incident occurred at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, located about 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on February 5. The 51st Civil Engineer Squadron at the 51st Fighter Wing swiftly responded to the situation, managing to recover 230 gallons or 870 liters of leaked fuel. The US Air Force assured that there is no immediate threat to drinking water as the water supply is sourced from off the base, and the origin of the leak has been identified and contained.
