The US Consulate General in Chennai, with support from the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), organized the US-India Space Business Forum in Bengaluru on February 10-11. This event was part of the first US Trade Mission to India focused on commercial space, bringing 23 Executives from 14 leading American space companies to India. The mission, organized by the US Department of Commerce and the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), aimed to enhance bilateral commercial space cooperation.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor highlighted the strategic strength of the US-India partnership and the shared commitment to innovation and commercial growth in the space sector. He emphasized the potential for greater prosperity and partnership in space technology collaboration. The two-day forum addressed key priorities of the US-India Commercial Space Sub-Working Group, focusing on market access, government procurement, foreign direct investment reforms, and export controls. It aimed to align policies and enhance business-to-business engagement between the two countries.
Leading US space companies such as Amazon, SpaceX, and Planet Lab participated in the trade mission, engaging with the Indian government and industry stakeholders to explore partnerships and market-entry opportunities. This initiative, only the second space-focused trade mission by the US Department of Commerce and the first to India, reinforced US leadership in commercial space innovation. It underscored the growing momentum of the US-India partnership in the global space economy.
