US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour, Riley Barnes, has extended congratulations to Penpa Tsering for securing a second term as the President of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). Barnes affirmed Washington’s dedication to collaborating with Tibetan leaders in their endeavors. Penpa Tsering, sworn in for his second term as Sikyong, emphasized the CTA’s allegiance to the Dalai Lama’s guidance during his inaugural speech at the ceremony in Dharamsala, India.
Sikyong Tsering reiterated the CTA’s commitment to upholding the Dalai Lama’s principles, focusing on sustaining the Tibetan cause until a peaceful resolution with China is achieved. Despite challenges in negotiations with the Chinese government, the CTA remains resolute in pursuing a non-violent, dialogue-based approach advocated by the Dalai Lama. Prior to the ceremony, the Dalai Lama engaged with outgoing CTA members, emphasizing their role as representatives of the Tibetan people worldwide.
In his address, Penpa Tsering highlighted the importance of maintaining communication channels with China while seeking international backing for the ‘middle-way policy’ until a lasting resolution is reached. The ceremony, attended by the Dalai Lama, symbolized a significant moment for the Tibetan community, underscoring their ongoing pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the Tibet-China conflict.
