The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implemented in Uttarakhand a year ago has led to the registration of nearly five lakh marriages in the state. The online procedure has been a key factor in the high number of marriage registrations, simplifying the process and eliminating the need for physical presence at the Sub-Registrar’s office.
Uttarakhand became the first state to implement the UCC on January 27, 2025, aiming to streamline personal laws related to marriage, succession, divorce, and inheritance. The state is set to mark the first anniversary of the UCC rollout, highlighting achievements in women empowerment, children’s rights protection, and civil rights equality.
The administrative procedures’ simplification has shown positive outcomes across various domains. Under the UCC, 4,74,447 marriages have been registered within less than a year of its enforcement, a significant increase from the previous system.
