Veteran defence officials have expressed approval of the non-bailable warrant issued by a Jammu court against Hafiz Saeed in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack case. The move is seen as a step towards enabling Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice against the UN-designated terrorist, according to experts.
Captain Anil Gaur (retd.), a defence expert, highlighted the significance of the court’s action, stating that the warrant, once forwarded by the Government of India, could lead to Hafiz Saeed’s extradition. However, he noted the challenge posed by Pakistan’s denial of Saeed’s presence in the country.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) S.P. Vaid emphasized the importance of completing the legal processes promptly. Vaid expressed hope for the extradition of not only Hafiz Saeed but also other prominent figures associated with terrorist organizations operating from Pakistan.
Vaid underscored the role of legal proceedings in establishing the culpability of individuals like Hafiz Saeed in orchestrating terrorist activities. He stressed the need for international cooperation in issuing Red Corner Notices to prevent such individuals from traveling abroad and evade justice.
The former DGP highlighted the impact of Hafiz Saeed’s alleged involvement in numerous terrorist attacks in India, emphasizing the quest for justice for the victims. Vaid called for concerted efforts to present evidence against such perpetrators internationally to address concerns regarding terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
