Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan has been appointed as the new Chief of Naval Staff, taking over from Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who is set to retire on May 31. Swaminathan, who became the 34th Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command on July 31 last year, joined the Indian Navy in 1987 and specializes in Communication and Electronic Warfare.
A distinguished officer, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan holds a string of accolades, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM). Throughout his career, he has served in various crucial operational, staff, and training roles, commanding notable vessels like INS Vidyut, Vinash, Kulish, Mysore, and Vikramaditya.
Having excelled in his career, Vice Admiral Swaminathan has contributed significantly to the Indian Navy’s training programs and operational safety initiatives. He has also held key positions such as Chief Staff Officer (Training) at Headquarters, Southern Naval Command, and Flag Officer Commanding, Western Fleet.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan, who holds multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD in International Studies, has a strong educational background. His diverse experience and expertise make him a fitting choice for the role of Chief of Naval Staff.
