Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), spearheaded the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation campaign at Laxmibai Nagar. This initiative saw active involvement from local residents, including government employees. Chahal emphasized that planting saplings reflects cultural values and reverence for nature, drawing a parallel between a mother nurturing her children and residents caring for the saplings.
As part of the drive, participants not only planted saplings but also pledged to nurture and safeguard them. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, Chahal highlighted the importance of citizens planting trees in honor of their mothers and ensuring their responsible upkeep. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from women, children, and members of the Residents’ Welfare Association.
Chahal, leading the plantation at Tikona Park near Laxmibai Nagar Market, stressed the significance of women’s active involvement in the campaign. The event sparked discussions on the Women Reservation Bill, with many applauding PM Modi’s efforts to address the long-standing issue of women’s quota. The NDMC has devised a “Green Calendar” for the year, planning tree plantation drives every Sunday across various areas under its jurisdiction.
Residents Welfare Association (RWA) President Rajesh Kumar Meena, along with numerous Laxmibai Nagar residents, actively participated in the plantation initiative. Chahal underscored the collaborative efforts of NDMC’s Horticulture, Health, Civil, and Sanitation Departments to ensure the success of the campaign. The goal is to establish sustainable green spaces through scientific plantation, proper maintenance, and diligent monitoring of the saplings.
