Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for united actions to achieve ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat,’ stating that each young life lost to addiction signifies a loss of national potential.
Speaking at the Nasha Mukt Bharat Conclave, organized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau and Disha Bodh Foundation, the Vice President highlighted that a Nasha Mukt Bharat goes beyond drug absence to promoting healthy choices, informed decisions, supportive families, and resilient communities.
To establish a Nasha Mukt Bharat, the battle against substance abuse must commence at an individual level and evolve into a nationwide movement through the joint endeavors of educational institutions, families, healthcare professionals, law enforcement agencies, and civil society.
Radhakrishnan, during the 31st Foundation Day of RGUHS at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, warned that substance abuse not only endangers individual health but also impacts educational achievements, productivity, social unity, and national progress.
He stressed the importance of individuals maintaining control over their minds, cautioning that when drugs seize the mind, one forfeits command over their life.
The Vice President urged students, especially future healthcare professionals, to become advocates of awareness and take a leading role in prevention, treatment, research, and evidence-based policymaking to combat substance abuse.
Advocating for increased research in addiction medicine, mental health, behavioral sciences, and community-based interventions, Radhakrishnan highlighted the necessity for evidence-based actions and research-informed policies.
He also emphasized the significance of utilizing technology, counseling services, and peer support networks to address substance use disorders effectively.
Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice (Retd) Syed Abdul Nazeer, Karnataka Minister for Medical Education Dr. Sharan Prakash R. Patil, Karnataka Minister for Health & Family Welfare U.T. Khader Fareed, Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS Bhagavan, and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
