Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan recently met with Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Minister of State Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani at Parliament House to deliberate on welfare and job schemes. The meeting involved discussions on various initiatives focused on rural transformation and public welfare, including housing for all, rural employment, skilling, and capacity building.
The Ministers and officials provided an overview to the Vice President regarding measures taken to enhance rural livelihoods, community infrastructure, road connectivity, social assistance, watershed management, and modernization of digital land records. They also briefed him on key government schemes such as Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM-G), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY–NRLM), Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-GraminPMAY–G, and other flagship programs.
Expressing appreciation for the Ministry’s transformative initiatives in the rural development sector, the Vice President highlighted the importance of strengthened rural development in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. He emphasized the significance of rural development supported by increased employment and skilling opportunities, quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s words, “India lives in its villages.”
