Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi recently met in New Delhi to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and technology. They discussed strengthening ties in areas such as education, the blue economy, and multilateral engagement. India reaffirmed its commitment to supporting shared development goals with Tanzania and Zanzibar.
During the meeting, Vice President Radhakrishnan emphasized India’s dedication to collaborating with Tanzania and Zanzibar across key sectors. Zanzibar President Mwinyi appreciated India’s assistance in establishing the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras’ Zanzibar Campus. The discussions also touched on water projects, scholarships, and training programs.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also engaged with President Mwinyi to explore avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation. They deliberated on enhancing partnerships in higher education, healthcare, digital technology, and water supply. Jaishankar highlighted the significance of initiatives like the IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus in fostering educational cooperation.
President Mwinyi, on an official visit to India at the invitation of Vice President Radhakrishnan, received a warm welcome. The visit underscores the deepening ties between India, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. The leaders’ discussions focused on strengthening developmental partnerships and exploring new avenues for collaboration in various sectors.
