Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo to discuss enhancing bilateral and cultural relations between the two nations. Radhakrishnan reiterated India’s commitment to the Neighbourhood policy and enhancing cooperation with Sri Lanka for the mutual benefit of both countries.
During the meeting, discussions focused on deepening the multifaceted ties between India and Sri Lanka, rooted in shared history and cultural values. The talks also highlighted various initiatives, including the Indian Housing Project and projects under a USD 450 million package for areas affected by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka.
Vice President Radhakrishnan’s official visit to Sri Lanka, the first bilateral trip by an Indian Vice President to the country, signifies the increasing diplomatic engagement between the two neighbors. Upon arrival in Colombo, he received a warm welcome and enjoyed a traditional Kandyan dance performance.
The visit aims to strengthen civilizational and people-to-people connections between India and Sri Lanka. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and meet with leaders of the Indian-origin Tamil community, as well as Tamil representatives from the Northern and Eastern regions of Sri Lanka.
