A video circulating on social media captured the defacement of the national flag and statues at Haribhai Godani Circle in Saraspur, Ahmedabad. The footage showed empty liquor bottles hanging from statues and a broom attached to the flags. Gujarat, where the incident occurred, strictly prohibits the manufacturing, sale, and consumption of alcohol.
The defacement incident has raised concerns about the local police and administrative supervision in the area, which is a frequented public spot. Sources suggest that the act was carried out by unidentified individuals. MLA Dinesh Kushwaha, whose office is near the circle, expressed unawareness of the incident and assured an investigation.
In response to the viral video, Vishal Khanama, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the North Zone in Ahmedabad, instructed a municipal team to visit the site. The team promptly removed the liquor bottles, brooms, and other objects from the defaced statues and flags. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation confirmed that swift action was taken to restore the site to its original state.
Authorities have stated that the Haribhai Godani Circle area falls under the jurisdiction of the Gomtipur Police Station. Bapunagar Police have initiated investigations and registered a case against the unidentified persons involved in the defacement incident. The defacement at Haribhai Godani Circle is part of a series of vandalism cases reported in Gujarat in recent times.
