Vinesh Phogat, in a strong comeback, advanced to the women’s 53kg semifinals at the Asian Games selection trials in New Delhi. She narrowly defeated Nishu 7-6 in a tough quarterfinal after starting her campaign with a win against Jyoti. Vinesh’s return to her preferred 53kg category marked a successful comeback after recent challenges.

Competing in the 53kg category, Vinesh initially faced some difficulties against Jyoti but gradually found her rhythm. She took the lead with a push-out and controlled the match through standing wrestling. Despite a tough fight, Vinesh managed to secure a 7-1 win in her first match.

In the quarterfinal against Nishu, Vinesh faced a close battle throughout. She clinched a 7-6 victory, securing her place in the semifinals and moving closer to earning a spot at the Asian Games. Vinesh’s participation in the trials was confirmed only a day before after intervention from the Supreme Court and the Wrestling Federation of India.

Vinesh’s journey in the trials has been eventful, with her overcoming challenges and securing victories. Antim Panghal also made a strong start by defeating Tannu in just 34 seconds. Wrestling fans may anticipate a potential final showdown between Vinesh and Antim, with Vinesh expected to face Meenakshi Goyat in the semifinals.
