Legendary cricketer Virat Kohli commended India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for his exceptional display in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup victory, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
Samson, brought in to bolster the team due to Abhishek Sharma’s poor form, scored three consecutive half-centuries, aiding India in securing their third T20 World Cup title and becoming the first team to achieve back-to-back victories on home turf.
Virat Kohli acknowledged Samson’s pivotal role in the historic win, praising his contributions in a social media post, emphasizing his crucial performances when it mattered the most.
“What a remarkable tournament from the most well-deserved Man of the Tournament @imsanjusamson. You performed when it mattered the most. Really happy for you, Chetta,” Kohli wrote in an Instagram story, sharing an ICC poster declaring Samson as the Player of the Tournament.
Samson emerged as a standout player for India, rescuing the team with an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies, followed by an 89-run innings in the semifinal against England, setting the stage for India’s victory with a massive total of 253/7.
In the final, the 35-year-old from Kerala once again shone, top-scoring with 89 runs to help India secure another comprehensive win, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs.
