India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, will be absent from the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury. Reports suggest that Kohli sustained the injury, possibly during the IPL 2026 final on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This setback compounds India’s woes as former captain Rohit Sharma’s availability is also uncertain following an injury during IPL 2026. While all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been cleared for selection, Rohit Sharma is yet to join the squad in Bengaluru.
The three-match series is set to commence on June 13 in Dharamsala at the HPCA Stadium, followed by matches in Lucknow at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on June 17 and Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on June 20.
Virat Kohli’s absence raises concerns not only for the Afghanistan series but also for his potential participation in the upcoming England tour, featuring three ODIs scheduled from July 14 to July 19.
