The voting process for the bypoll to two Assembly segments in Karnataka on Thursday is progressing swiftly. Polling in Bagalkot Assembly constituency has surpassed 65%, while in Davanagere South constituency, it has crossed 63% as of 5 P.M.
Polling began at 7 A.M., and voters have the opportunity to cast their votes until 6 P.M. According to official data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the voter turnout in Bagalkot reached 65.68%, with Davanagere South recording 63.04%.
Earlier, Davanagere South had a 37.17% turnout by 1 P.M., while Bagalkot stood at 43.75%. A clash between Congress and Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers occurred in Davanagere during polling, leading to brief tension.
Voters from Karnataka residing in Goa showed keen interest in voting in the Bagalkot Assembly bye-election. They returned to their native place to cast their votes, appreciating the assistance they received during the Covid lockdown.
Allegations of mismanagement surfaced in the Bagalkot bye-election, with voters facing difficulties due to the lack of basic facilities at a polling station in Aminagad. The incident has raised concerns over the preparedness and arrangements at polling stations during the bye-election.
