Former Arsenal midfielder and Wales football team captain Aaron Ramsey has decided to retire from professional football, ending a remarkable career. Ramsey, one of Wales’ greatest players, scored 21 goals in 86 matches and participated in three major tournaments. He notably played a key role in Wales’ memorable journey to the Euro 2016 semi-finals and was part of the UEFA team of the tournament.
Ramsey expressed the difficulty of his decision, stating, “After a lot of consideration, I have decided to retire from football.” He specifically acknowledged the privilege of representing Wales and thanked the managers and staff who supported him throughout his career. Additionally, Ramsey expressed gratitude to his former club Arsenal, where he spent 11 years and won three FA Cups.
The 35-year-old, who last played for Mexican club Pumas in September, expressed his desire to play in the FIFA World Cup for Wales. However, the team’s loss to Bosnia in the qualifiers dashed those hopes. Ramsey extended his appreciation to all the clubs he played for, emphasizing the support he received from managers and staff in fulfilling his dream of playing at the highest level.
Ramsey concluded his retirement announcement by thanking his wife, children, and family for their unwavering support, acknowledging their crucial role in his successful career.
