The Waqf land controversy has resurfaced in Karnataka, with senior BJP leader R. Ashoka accusing the Congress government of endangering farmers’ land rights by recording Waqf-related entries in land records. Ashoka criticized the government’s actions, stating that such entries could impact the ownership and livelihoods of farmers.
Ashoka highlighted concerns over more than 1.80 lakh RTCs already marked with Waqf-related entries, potentially affecting farmers across all 31 districts of Karnataka. He called for immediate clarification from the state government regarding these entries and their implications on farmers’ land rights.
The BJP leader emphasized the seriousness of the issue by providing district-wise figures, urging Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to address the situation promptly. Ashoka raised questions about the government’s motives, expressing worries about farmers facing challenges in land transactions and ownership rights due to the recorded entries.
Demanding intervention, Ashoka called for a halt to the process, a review of all Waqf-related entries in RTCs, and the release of a detailed report to the public. He asserted that any threat to farmers’ land would not be tolerated by the people of Karnataka, emphasizing the significance of protecting farmers’ rights.
