The West Bengal Assembly’s Budget Session schedule might see adjustments to accommodate Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s planned appearance in New Delhi on February 9 for a crucial court hearing. Initially set as the session’s last day, February 9 could now be replaced by February 7, a Saturday, due to the CM’s involvement in the Special Intensive Revision case at the Supreme Court.
Usually, Assembly sessions do not occur on Saturdays, but this exception is made considering the CM’s hearing at the apex court. Mamata Banerjee herself was present in court recently and argued the case. The State Finance Minister, Chandrima Bhattacharya, is scheduled to present the interim budget on Thursday at 2.30 p.m.
During the ongoing Budget Session, the Treasury Bench plans to introduce two significant motions. The first motion will condemn the Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal, while the second will criticize the actions of central investigative bodies like the CBI and ED in the state. Notably, the latter motion gains importance following controversies surrounding recent ED raids at I-PAC offices in Kolkata.
