West Bengal BJP President, Samik Bhattacharya, warned party leaders and elected representatives to avoid excessive involvement in community Durga Pujas. He dismissed rumors of heading a Durga Puja committee and emphasized maintaining the autonomy of such committees. Bhattacharya stressed that political figures should not take over Puja committees, highlighting the festival’s importance to the people, not political parties.
The CPI-M historically refrained from direct participation in Durga Puja events due to its Marxist ideology. In contrast, the Trinamool Congress leaders had significant control over many community Durga Pujas during their governance. Bhattacharya assured that the new BJP government would not follow the previous administration’s approach to managing these religious events.
