West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari unveiled a comprehensive relief package for families impacted by the Taratala warehouse roof collapse. The package includes financial aid, job support, free medical care, and educational assistance for the victims’ children. At a ceremony at Nabanna Sabhaghar, the Chief Minister distributed Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the 16 deceased workers and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured.
Adhikari pledged ongoing support from the state government for the affected families. He promised free medical treatment and medication until the injured workers fully recover. Additionally, he committed to assisting one family member from each bereaved household in finding employment based on their educational qualifications.
The Chief Minister delegated the task of identifying job opportunities to Kolkata Municipal Corporation administrator Smita Pandey and Municipal and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul. Adhikari emphasized the importance of educational qualifications for job placements and instructed officials to explore employment options for both deceased and injured workers’ families within the municipal corporation.
In addition to immediate relief, Adhikari mentioned the government’s consideration of providing monthly financial aid to the families of the deceased. He also assured that the government would cover the educational expenses of the victims’ children. Furthermore, Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee was directed to ensure that all injured workers receive free treatment and medicines until their recovery.
The tragic incident occurred on June 24 at an under-construction warehouse in Taratala, south Kolkata, where the roof collapsed, resulting in 16 fatalities and over 15 injuries.
