The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police has launched an investigation into claims of fake signatures of Trinamool Congress MLAs. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising five members, led by a DIG-ranked officer, has been set up for this inquiry. The team includes a DSP and two inspectors.
Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee was called to the CID headquarters for questioning regarding discrepancies in MLAs’ signatures for key positions in the West Bengal Assembly. Following an incident of assault in Sonarpur on May 30, Banerjee’s aunt, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, arranged for him to receive treatment at home.
Amidst speculations about Banerjee’s cooperation with the CID probe, questions arise about his appearance at the CID headquarters near his residence. Banerjee has assured his cooperation with the investigation while seeking legal advice. The CID’s notice to Banerjee is linked to the investigation of signature inconsistencies in the nomination of key opposition leaders in the Assembly.
